Who are the Scots? Exploring Challenges to National Identity

November 22 | 18:00 - 20:00

Glasgow Adults Panel Event / Author Reading History, Scottish Writers

Wrestling with the knotty questions of national identity are three authors who, in their books, have explored alternative notions of what it means to be a Scot. Brian McHugh, author of Torn Edges and Between Two Bridges, will look at Scots-Irish connections; the Scots-English experience of living in contemporary Scotland is explored by Mary McCabe in Stirring the Dust and Two Closes and a Referendum; and Sandy Jamieson, author of A Subtle Sadness and Own Goal, will address ideas of Scots-European identity. They'll speak to the different and challenging issues of identity explored in their books and take part in a question and answer session with the audience. There will be free tours of the Baths from 6pm. The event will start at 7pm and will last an hour.
