Where marginalised in print and cut from political discourse, female experience has often found a way to be shared through songs and music. But despite an incredible outpouring of talent, music by women tends to be written off as a ‘guilty pleasure’. Female artists are still less likely to be heard on our radios, seen on festival stages or played in clubs. Redress the balance; come along to the Feminist Disco for a guilt-free night of fabulous tunes that deserve to be danced to. Nina Simone, Patti Smith, Beyonce, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, M.I.A, Janis Joplin, Salt-n-Peppa, Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, Ms Dynamite, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae, Blondie, Missy Elliot, Hole and many, many others!
