No Vote, No Census!

November 22 | 19:00 - 20:00

Kirkintilloch Adults Panel Event / Author Reading Fantasy, History, Local Interest, Scots

Join historical researcher Ruth Boreham to find out how boycotting the 1911 census and spoiling papers were tools of protest for women’s suffrage campaigners in Scotland. The 1911 census was seen by suffragettes as a chance to protest against a government that refused to give them the vote despite decades of campaigning. In this talk Ruth will discuss her research into the topic using Scottish census records and archival documents. Discover some of the names of those who campaigned for women’s suffrage in Scotland and the different ways they chose to protest.
